JCER editorial workshop for special issue 2008

By Agnes | May 18, 2008

Editorial meeting on 10 December 2007 at the Institute of Communications Studies at the University of Leeds to plan the JCER special issue 2008.

On Monday, 10 December 2007 members of the UACES Student Forum Specialist Study Group ‘Media and Communication in Europe’ came together for a first editorial meeting to produce an editorial outline for the JCER special issue 2008.

The original idea for a JCER special issue in cooperation with the UACES Student Forum Specialist Study Group ‘Media and Communication in Europe’ came up during a discussion with JCER editor Dr. Eamonn Butler at the UACES Student Forum conference at the University of Nottingham in April 2007. This idea was finalised over the summer and put into practice with a first editorial meeting at the Institute of Communcations Studies at the University of Leeds.

The agenda of the edirotial meeting comprised discussions among Study Group members about a theme for the special issue, formulating an editorial outline, announcing the roles of sub-editor and book review editor and delegating tasks including the preparation of a call for papers and the organsiation of a thematic workshop. Furthermore, the meeting was enriched by presentations from Dr. Robin Brown (University of Leeds) and Dr. Asimina Michailidou (University of Bristol) who talked about the rules of publishing and their own publishing experience.

The decisions taken at the meeting include the announcement of Agnes I. Schneeberger (University of Leeds) as the JCER special issue sub-editor and Daithí Mac Síthigh (Trinity College, Dublin) as the new book reviews editor for the JCER special issue 2008.  It was agreed that the theme of the forthcoming CER Special Issue 2008 will be “Media and Communication in Europe: Babel revisited.”
